John Thurman
John Wayne Thurman, 53, of Pierson, Florida passed away on October 12, 2024. Born on October 29, 1970 in Hollywood, Florida. John was a man who loved his roots, hunting, fishing & most importantly the role he played as a son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather and friend. His adventurous spirit and passion for the outdoors left an unforgettable mark on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his parents, Ed and Louise O'Quinn of DeLand, Florida and Kirk and Carole Thurman of Pooler, Georgia. His siblings: Ann (Pete) Richardson, Jason O'Quinn, Shelly (Tony) Visconti, Sean (Mary) Thurman, and Erica (Craig) Burgstiner.
He was a devoted husband to Laura Thurman. He was extremely proud of his boys, Will (Alyssa) Thurman and Troy (Anslee) Thurman, Ryan (Lauren) Clark and Jacob Clark. He absolutely adored his four grandchildren Brayden, Paisley, Taylor and Evelyn.
A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday October 26, 2024 at Bethel Cemetery, 2485 N. Spring Garden Ave., DeLand, Florida at 11:00 AM. A Celebration of Life will follow at The Richardson's Barn, 384 Emporia Road, Pierson, Florida from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

John Richardson Thurman (October 6, 1814 – July 24, 1854) was a U.S. Representative from New York.
Born in New York City, Thurman graduated from Columbia University in 1835.[1] He moved to Chestertown, Warren County and engaged in agricultural pursuits. He was also involved in several businesses, including serving as a Director of the Sacket's Harbor and Saratoga Railroad.[2] He also speculated in land, as evidenced by the fact that his widow and children sold some of their holdings to the Delaware and Hudson Railroad during its construction.[3]
He held several local offices, including Associate Judge of the Warren County Court.[4]
